Your fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future.
Yesterday was our first OB appt. Yup thats right we graduated from the RE to the OB. It was a crazy 3 hour, yes 3 hour, process. I decided after my 2nd m/c it was time to change OB's and I'm so glad I did!!! Despite it being 3 hours!
My appt was at 9:45...I didn't get called back till 10:40. The nurse took a urine sample, checked my height and weight, took my pulse & BP (112/60). I had been wondering if my BP was low because I've had some dizziness and she said this is completely normal in pregnancy and to continue drinking lots of water. (Between my husband and everyone else.....OK I GET IT....water is good for us!) She spent probably 20 minutes with us going over a binder that they give parents that has all kinds of good info in it. I was really surprised that they did this but...its great!! Classes offered for new parents, medicines ok to take while pg, what to expect when you go in labor, what to expect at the hospital, reference numbers, etc....
After all that came the exciting part...we listened for the babies heartbeat with a doppler. I was totally freaked out because I thought I was way too early and the nurse was like "no i'm confident we'll hear it." And we did! It was 158 bpm. YAY! It was such a relief.
By the time I saw the Dr. it was probably 11:20! He was excellent and worth the wait! He did an annual exam which was pretty uncomfortable. And told "well your def pg! And your uterus is about the size of a large orange." Thanks Doc! ;-)
They sent me for some labs so we had to go over to the hospital. I had to register which took almost 30 minutes, it was ridiculous and by this point I hadn't had anything to eat since 8:00...it was going on noon when they called me back to draw my blood. I got even more irritated when they told me they needed a urine sample. I was like I just did one and they basically said tough...do it again. So after that they drew my blood and I started to feel pretty queasy but thankfully did not pass out after 5 vials. We went straight to the cafeteria after that. I was so upset because I told my new boss it should take about 1-1 1/2 hours......it was 3 hours!!! Oh well.....
It's starting to sink in....we're pregnant!!!
